This can take from a few hours to hundreds of years. It can go back to the ground, or into the sky or into the water. It all gets absorbed by the mass of life that lives on the planet. When it is returned to ground it is not the same material. This new material is fed back into to the life system that populates the planet. It is called feedback. Every single person is involved in this process. To point to the sky or the ocean or the land and fail to understand that it is all related and as long as we concentrate on the individual physical after effects and fail to address the constant stream of crap we put back into the land, water and air, nothing is going to change. Divided we fail, united we succeed. You can always wear a rain coat or sunscreen to deflect the weather changes you don't like but you can't eat poison.
